So here goes: Way
back when in 1997, ok so some of you couldn’t drink back then :)
I graduated college as a Graphic Designer and joined AOL.
I was approached by the very popular
SoCalBBW chat room and asked if I would make a logo for there website. (Which I
did by the way) I became friends with the chat room group and ended up hosting
their Christmas party in my clubhouse. The next thing I knew I was hosting the
New Years Eve party and then their Valentines Party.
I kept being asked when I would hold
another party and as the years went by the request kept coming. At this time
2002 there were a few BBW groups that held parties in hotels, Big Difference,
Big Boogie nights and Big Babes. I am sure I am missing a few names here
sorry.
There was also a small BBW bar in Culver City named Club Curves.
I met with the owner of the Lions Den
and asked if I could hold a party for one night only. She them said to me why
not every Saturday night?
I then decided to go out of the norm as in a BBW club and open up as a
"SIZE
ACCEPTANCE" night club.
This way no matter what your size was
you would be welcome. Now you have many nightclubs across the US and the
movement has escalated beyond my wildest dreams!
On a more personal note my younger
sister Cynthia battled
with her weight all her life. I watched as she felt unaccepted by society and
how low her self esteem could get. She tried every diet imaginable and finally
took the plunge and decided to try the bypass surgery. At this time the surgery
was very new and the results were unknown. It saddens me to say but 2 years ago
she passed away from complications from the surgery. I not trying to scare you
off from the surgery I know many of you have had wonderful results. I just
wanted to let you know where my driving force comes from.

On a brighter note here I have witnessed so much joy from running the Butterfly
Lounge. I have witness many of you come out of you shell so to speak. I met with
many that have never been to a nightclub before or have even had the courage to
go out in public. We have held many wild and crazy themes that you have
requested. You should see my closet!!!
I been blessed with watching many of
you go back to college, get better jobs, become engaged or married, have
beautiful babies and embraced your lives without hesitation.
Many of you ask me why I don't get
involved with any of the drama or the mud slinging that seems to go on. If I was
to respond to any of this I would be defeating the purpose of my night club. The
Butterfly Lounge is here because all of you. Your love and support all these
years has kept us going and I am forever grateful!
I also have to thank MIKA
for writing us our own song! BIG GIRL (you are
Beautiful) I was on stage with him last year
wearing gogo boots, a corset and ruffle shorts while he performed our song in
Hollywood.
Without all of you and the nightclub
I would never have had the nerve to do this. But some how I knew in my heart if
I believed in everything the Butterfly Lounge stood for that I could walk out on
that stage with confidence and represent all of us.
Many Thanks to all of the Butterfly
Lounge Team Members though all these years whether you are still with us or not!
Rome wasn’t built in a day nor was the Butterfly Lounge! I wish all the best
that life has to offer and hope to have the Butterfly Lounge open for many more
years to come!
Much Love,
